FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What is the Starting Wage?

A: The Beginning wage for a 1st year apprentice is based on the Inside Journeyman Scale as of June 1, 2024 is $19.350/hr. After 1000 hours worked (approximately 6 months) $21.50

Q: How old do I have to be to apply for the apprenticeship program?
A: All applicants must be at least 17 at the time of the application. Proof of birthdate will be required.

Q: Does the apprenticeship program require any education?
A: To qualify, applicants must have a high school degree or GED. If they do not have a diploma or GED, they must have a two-year Associate's Degree or higher.

Q: How much does the program cost?
A: There is not an enrollment or tuition fee to enroll in the apprenticeship program. However, there is a $50 application fee due at the time of application. Additionally, students will have to pay for their educational resources and provide their own laptop. Click here for laptop requirements (link to Windows Computer document).

Q: What is application process to enroll in the apprenticeship program?
A: All applicants must read the minimum qualifications (listed above). Upon eligibility, interested applicants must fill  an application online at www.jatc153.com. There is a $50 application fee associated with each application. Once we receive your transcripts and proof of algebra, a link to your personal evaluation form will be sent to you by GAN Human Resources. After completion of the P.E.F. you will be scheduled for testing.    Apprentices will be selected in order of their final ranking.

Q: What are some of the physical requirements necessary to be an electrical apprentice?
A: Apprentices need to endure all kinds of working environments including those with extreme weather conditions, excessive noise and distractions, and varying depths and heights (trenches, ladders, manholes, etc.) They also need the ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds or more, climb ladders, operate power equipment, and work long hour days. Q: Will I need to drive anywhere?
A: Yes, apprentices are placed in jobs that may require daily commutes of up to 75 miles. Job locations are spread across six counties: Elkhart, St. Joseph, Marshal and Kosciusko in Indiana and Berrien and Cass counties in Michigan.
